Album Review: The Fame Monster - Lady GaGa

Let me start with two pretty obvious observations. First off, Lady GaGa is the biggest star in music today. Secondly, if I were a little kid watching her music videos online or on MTV, I would have nightmares. She’s different, that’s for sure. The Fame Monster is the 8 song followup to The Fame, and it delivers the same brand of electronic dance music that’s been topping the charts for the last year or so.

Forget about the memorable outfits and the interesting onstage performances. Lady GaGa is one of the few pop artists whose appeal I can understand and appreciate. It comes down to 2 things - she can sing, and those deep electronic beats are infectious. As a dj, I know I can drop any one of her singles and get a good response from the crowd.

The Fame Monster is very good. And unlike other albums with 1-3 decent tracks and 15 songs of filler, this record is all about quality over quantity. In this case, I like 6 of the 8 tracks. Bad Romance is already about to break into the Billboard Top 10, and I think Monster, Telephone (ft. Beyoncé) and Dance in the Dark have a chance to follow it up the charts.
The 2 tracks I’m not feeling as much are Speechless and Teeth, but that’s more because they don’t match up with the high octane electronica in the other tracks. It’s sort of like that old lady going 55 in the fast lane. She’s still a decent driver, and you can go around her if you want, but it disrupts the flow a little.

All that said, The Fame Monster is short and sweet, and should be another hit. I give it a 4.5 out of 5, good for Editor’s Pick status.

Great review but as a Lady Gaga fan, I don't believe this album warrants a 4.5 out of 5. I honestly thought a lot of the tunes on it were just filler tracks for the singles but that's just my opinion.

Thanks. I agree with you; I think my standards in music have gone down.
